Artist bio:
St. Louis artist Jason Potter is an alumnus of Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. There he studied graphic design and printmaking, earning his B.A. in Art in 2000.
Inspired by the vibrant and playful works of show poster artists Art Chantry, Jay Ryan, and Frank Kozik, Potter began designing and screen printing posters not only as an artistic outlet, but more functionally to promote the various bands in which he played. In 2009, Potter was named Best Poster Designer by the Riverfront Times - Best Of St. Louis, and has contributed many of the posters he has designed, for both local and national acts, to the archive at gigposters.com. He also contributed posters to Artcrank (A Poster Party for Bike People) - St. Louis in 2009 and 2011.
Taking a cue from artists such as Ray Johnson, Winston Smith, and Jasper Johns, Potter began exploring the medium of collage and assemblage in 2010. He curated his first solo exhibit in 2011, No One Goes Hungry, showcasing both printed works and these painterly collages.
Potter continues to pursue printmaking and collage art, exploring themes of discarded cultural remnants. In 2012 he will curate additional exhibits of his work, presenting his growing portfolio of posters, prints, and collages.
